At Vaughandale Construction, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s at the heart of our operations. Recently, our Operations Coordinator, Claire, and Compliance Manager, Julie, attended the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce’s workshop on Carbon Reduction and Sustainability, hosted by Nottingham Trent University.
This engaging full-day event provided invaluable insights into carbon management, empowering businesses to take actionable steps toward reducing their carbon footprint.
The sessions covered everything from carbon accounting and decarbonisation strategies to effective communication and compliance with environmental legislation.
Learning for the Future
Reflecting on the event, Claire shared:
“The workshop was a real eye-opener. It gave us practical tools to measure and manage our carbon footprint, and it was inspiring to see so many local businesses committed to driving sustainability forward.”
Julie, who oversees compliance at Vaughandale, also found the workshop highly valuable:
“What stood out to me was how straightforward the strategies can be once you know where to start. The tips on decarbonisation planning and resource efficiency were especially useful, and I’m excited to bring these ideas back to the team. Vaughandale is already prioritising sustainable practices like sourcing materials locally.”
Vaughandale’s Green Initiatives
At Vaughandale, sustainability is embedded into our everyday work. Some of the measures we’ve implemented include:
- Local Sourcing: We prioritise materials from local suppliers to reduce transportation emissions and support the regional economy.
- Eco-Friendly Technologies: From installing energy-efficient heating systems to designing buildings with renewable energy solutions, we incorporate green practices into our projects.
- Sustainable Workforce: By employing a local team and investing in their training, we reduce the need for long-distance commutes and build skills within the community.
A Shared Responsibility
This workshop reaffirmed our belief that reducing carbon emissions is a shared responsibility. Vaughandale remains committed to innovating and adopting best practices to meet the evolving environmental challenges of our industry.
As Claire summed up, “It’s not just about compliance; it’s about doing what’s right for the planet, our clients, and future generations.”
