At Vaughandale Construction, we believe in nurturing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. We’re proud to offer young people opportunities to gain hands-on experience and develop their careers in construction. Whether it’s through apprenticeships or work experience, we’re dedicated to helping them build solid foundations for their futures.
Take, for example, Kieran and Charlie, two young talents who have joined us on-site.
From Work Experience to Apprenticeship: Kieran’s Journey
Kieran, our talented joinery apprentice, has been with Vaughandale for two years. During this time, he’s worked on various projects, gaining valuable experience across multiple sites. When Kieran decided that joinery was the path he wanted to pursue, he took the initiative to speak with our operations coordinator, Claire, about further training opportunities.
With Vaughandale’s support, Kieran enrolled in a joinery course at West Notts College, where he now spends one day a week in the classroom and four days on-site, honing his practical skills. Recently, he’s been working on the window refurbishment at the historic Brunts Building in Mansfield, a key project in our portfolio.
Kieran is growing in both confidence and knowledge and says “I am really enjoying the work, absolutely smashing my apprenticeship being over 20% done and the blokes on site have been really supportive and knowledgeable.”
Charlie’s Start in Construction
Charlie, the son of one of our office team members, has been passionate about the construction industry for years. He first joined Vaughandale for work experience during Year 10, spending mornings with our store-man and afternoons in the office. His enthusiasm was clear, and after completing his GCSEs, Charlie returned for an extended work experience placement over the summer.
Now, Charlie is embarking on the next phase of his career, having started his full-time plastering course at West Notts College’s Brewery Site this September. We’re excited to watch Charlie grow as he gains new skills in this dynamic industry.
“I have really enjoyed working with the different trades on site and working as part of a team, everyone I have worked with has been very welcoming.” Charlie remarked.
One of our site managers commented “While working with me on the Brunts project, Charlie was always polite and punctual, using his own initiative. He is a strong lad so moving materials and helping, was a massive help. He was working with various trades (Joiner and Bricklayer). He was clean and presentable. All ok from me.”
At Vaughandale, we understand that investing in young talent today means building a stronger future for our industry tomorrow. By providing apprenticeships, hands-on experience, and mentorship, we’re proud to help shape the careers of the next generation of construction professionals.
