Client Representative: William Saunders
Building a New Home for Farndon Cricket Club.
Vaughandale Construction is proud to have delivered a state-of-the-art cricket pavilion for Farndon Cricket Club, designed to meet the needs of players, officials, and the wider community.
Situated at the edge of the cricket pitch on a greenfield site, the two-storey pavilion combines functionality with modern design. It features a spacious function room, ideal for hosting events and community gatherings, alongside dedicated changing rooms for two teams and two umpires, ensuring ample space and convenience for match days.
The pavilion also includes accessible WCs, a stunning balcony viewing platform that offers panoramic views of the cricket pitch, and a newly constructed car park to improve accessibility for visitors. This carefully designed facility not only supports the club’s sporting activities but also provides a welcoming venue for the local community to come together, celebrating the shared spirit of sports and connection.
Overcoming Challenges with Innovative Solutions.
The project presented unique design and construction challenges, including the delivery of a bespoke roof structure that required intricate planning and coordination. A combination of natural and composite integrated cladding was used to achieve a striking and durable finish that blended seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
Additionally, the building featured two different storey heights, requiring cantilevered scaffolding over the lower roof during construction. Vaughandale worked closely with independent roofing and cladding contractors to ensure seamless design coordination and precise execution.
Creating a pavilion that met the high standards required by both the cricket club and the surrounding community was a rewarding challenge. The collaboration between all stakeholders was key to ensuring the success of this project.”

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency at the Core.
- Thermally efficient aluminium windows and doors to minimise heat loss and reduce energy consumption.
Blockwork and brickwork cavity walls for robust insulation and improved thermal performance.
-
Advanced mechanical installations, including air source heat pumps and MHVAC systems, provide efficient temperature regulation and enhanced air quality.
-
Energy-efficient electrical systems, covering space heating, general and emergency lighting, as well as modern security measures such as an intruder alarm and access control.
-
All rainwater is diverted to a 50m³ cellular soakaway located beneath the cricket pitch, with permeable asphalt paving in the car park allowing water to soak into the surrounding ground, meaning the pavilion does not discharge any surface water into the local sewer network.
A Commitment to Excellence.
This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and teamwork can create a space that’s both functional and beautiful. It’s an honour to have been part of a project that will bring people together and foster community spirit for years to come,
