An Award-Winning Home Adaptation.

Vaughandale Construction is proud to announce that our project for a home adaption has been recognised with the LABC Building Excellence Award as the Regional Winner for Building Excellence. This accolade celebrates the exceptional standards achieved in design, construction, and delivery of a project that exemplifies our commitment to quality and innovation.

The project involved the transformation of a private residence into a highly functional, accessible, and welcoming home tailored to the unique needs of the client. Working alongside France & Associates, we incorporated specialist adaptations and advanced construction techniques to deliver a truly life-enhancing home.

Overcoming Challenges in Heritage Restoration & New Construction.

Working on agricultural buildings always presents unique challenges, and The Barns were no exception. We carefully demolished deteriorated structural elements by hand to preserve the historical integrity of the barns. The construction of new external walls and the formation of apertures required skilled stonemasonry to blend seamlessly with the original 250-year-old structure.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with local planning and conservation authorities to ensure that all aspects of the design complied with heritage guidelines while providing modern amenities. The result is a perfect blend of old and new—respecting the barns’ heritage while delivering contemporary, high-end homes for the modern buyer.

High-Spec Construction and Design.

Vaughandale delivered a top-tier interior fit-out, with all aspects of the homes designed to the highest standards. The work included:
  • Installation of bespoke timber windows and doors to maintain the historic charm.
  • Construction of high-performance acoustic internal walls and partitions to enhance privacy and comfort.
  • A complex mechanical and electrical installation, ensuring each home is energy efficient and fully equipped with modern technology.
  • Luxurious bespoke kitchens and bathrooms, designed to the client’s specifications.
  • Installation of underfloor heating, providing both comfort and efficiency, as well as energy-efficient boilers and kitchen appliances to meet the client’s sustainability goals.

Site Challenges and Solutions.

In addition to the structural challenges, there were logistical hurdles to overcome, such as the unregistered site address, which made material deliveries tricky.

We provided suppliers with clear directions to ensure timely deliveries. The public’s curiosity about the project was another factor, as local walkers often stopped by to observe and discuss the transformation.

This project was a pleasure to work on. It was something we had not done a project like this before as the building was in a very dilapidated state to begin with showing years of extensive neglect. Every member of the team that assisted in the rebuild and finishing showed the greatest care and were excited for the finished product. It is something I would happily take on again with the support of our head office, the knowledge of the local authority and our extensive specialist contractors.

Environmental and Energy-Efficient Features.

The project was carried out with sustainability in mind, incorporating energy-efficient systems throughout the homes. Features included:
  • Underfloor heating for efficient energy use.
  • An energy-efficient boiler system and appliances to reduce the overall environmental footprint of the homes.

Social Value: Breathing New Life into Historic Buildings.

The Park Hall Barns project is a prime example of restoration work that benefits the wider community.

By converting these disused, dilapidated buildings into beautiful, functional homes, Vaughandale not only preserved a piece of local history but also created new homes for private sale, ensuring these barns remain a vibrant part of the landscape for years to come.
